Sobia Ahmed
Sobia Ahmed holder of a bachelor’s degree in Miniature painting, along with a Masters in Visual Arts/ MPhil, from the National college of Arts
(Lahore), Sobia Ahmed is a Lahore-based artist whose work is primarily based on the various socio-political predicament situations that define
the boundaries of human interaction both on a national, as well as an international level. Her work aims to raise questions within the viewer’s
minds regarding the situations that define political boundaries.
She has held exhibitions on both a national and international level, including Pakistan, India, Dubai, Switzerland, Canada, Oman, London and
Japan.
Sobia is currently working as a permanent Lecturer in Fine Arts Department at the National college of Arts, Lahore since 2013.
“For me as an artist, the initial visual impact a piece of art has on the viewer is much more important than any subsequent notion he/she later
conceives about the piece. This poses a problem, as often times, having an idea in your head and further transforming it into a piece of art is
a tricky thing to do, with the resulting image often deviating off of the original subject intended to be. Often the resulting piece mutates into
something else entirely. During the course of my career, my aim would be to create a kind of multi-layered timelessness that, I believe any piece
of art must have if it is to gain any ounce of recognition in the world of art.”
